Falls with and without injury
Any unplanned descent to the floor. This can happen while walking, sitting, standing. This measure totals all falls, whether or not the patient is injured. (A lower percentage is better)
Falls with injury
Any unplanned descent to the floor. This can happen while walking, sitting, standing. This measure totals any fall with an injury. (A lower percentage is better)
Why is this important?
There are many hazards in hospitals – unfamiliar environments, electrical cords, equipment, feeling unwell, that can increase a patient’s risk to fall. If a patient falls while in the hospital, that fall can lead to additional injury, increased time in the hospital, increased costs, even increased mortality. We do everything we can to minimize that risk and keep you safe while you are in the hospital.
