Submax Exercise Testing
Submaximal exercise testing is the testing option for those individuals that do not wish to undergo VO2max testing, or, for whom VO2max testing is inappropriate.
Gas analysis is performed utilizing the HPL’s ParvoMedics metabolic analyzer while the participant exercises at less-than-maximum efforts. The participant performs three to five increasingly difficult work bouts lasting 3 minutes each, but does not reach a maximally exhaustive effort.
While this test will not provide a measurement of maximal aerobic capacity, it provides a precise estimation due to the relationship seen between changes in oxygen uptake and heart rate with increasing exercise load.
