Dr. Gilmer specializes in sports injuries, knee and shoulder arthroscopy, and fracture care. He graduated with high honors from Texas A&M University. He studied medicine at The University of Texas Medical Branch graduating with highest honors and was president of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency training at the University of Washington’s world-renowned Harborview Medical Center where he treated complex Orthopaedic injuries and fractures from a five state area including Washington, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska. He then completed subspecialty fellowship training at the Taos Orthopaedic Institute in ski and snowboard related trauma and arthroscopy.
Dr. Gilmer's special interests include minimally invasive fracture care, complex ligamentous knee injuries, ankle arthroscopy and reconstruction, and cartilage preservation. He has published medical research on a less invasive technique for knee ligament repair and has presented his research at national meetings. Dr. Gilmer is a team physician for the US Ski and Snowboard Teams (USSA), and has performed medical mission work in Mexico, Nicaragua, and Indonesia. He has received awards for humanism in medicine, compassionate care, and excellence in teaching. He speaks medical Spanish.
Dr. Gilmer his wife and young son moved to Mammoth Lakes to be close to the outdoors and enjoy hiking, biking, running, Nordic and downhill skiing.
