Melanie Van Winkle, Mammoth Hospital Chief Financial Officer, joined the team in January 2010 and brings over 22 years of financial experience in health care. Melanie obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Business/Accounting from San Diego State University and a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from Walden University. Melanie started her career as a financial auditor for 5 years with Deloitte in San Diego and has an active California Certified Public Accountant license. After gaining healthcare experience as an auditor, Melanie transitioned into healthcare financial leadership positions at Tri-City Medical Center, Palomar Health, and Valley Health System in San Diego.
Melanie was surprised when she stumbled upon Mammoth Hospital in 2009 – quite literally. On a walk with her family while camping close by, she came across the hospital and on a whim, walked in and saw the CFO position advertised. Early in her career she had chosen the health care industry for the ability to live and work in a smaller community and she had always thought Mammoth Lakes to be a great place to live given the opportunity. Shortly after her vacation to Mammoth she applied for the job, and the rest as they say is history.
Melanie’s work philosophy is to help people to be successful in their own positions by bridging communication gaps and asking questions. Melanie works with high integrity and works hard to stay apprised of current health care regulations.
Aside from her career at Mammoth Hospital enjoys being an active member of the community and spending time with family. Her husband, Eric, works for Blizzard Fire Protection. Their youngest son attends Mammoth Middle School, while three other children are young adults pursuing various career paths. The family enjoys camping, hiking, biking, skiing, and occasional travel.
